GAME RECAP: JAX X MEN 22, ANCLOTE PIRATES 16

by Andy Villamarzo

JACKSONVILLE- A case of too little, too late became the undoing for the Pirates when they traveled up to Jacksonville to take on the Jax X Men at Westside High School. With quarterback Andy Villamarzo making his second start under center, wasn't able to find his targets and was also plagued by a few timely dropped passes.

The Pirates fell 22-16 and fell just short in their comeback bid late in the fourth quarter. Nate Munson stepped in a quarterback late in the game and provided a brief spark for the Pirates, passing for 48 yards and rushed for another 19 on the ground. Javaughn Johnson continued his solid season for Anclote, with three catches for 35 yards and also had a 76-yard kickoff return for a touchdown in the final period.

Munson opened up the scoring for the Pirates and punched it in from a yard out in the opening quarter and gave Anclote an 8-0 lead. The X Men answered back and tied the game at 8-all, but Anclote looked to take an early big lead when an interception by Darrius Small was returned inside Jacksonville's 10-yard line. A penalty would negate tremendous field position and the Pirates would end up with no points.
