Pirates overcome miscues to remain undefeated in win over Apes

ST. PETERSBURG- Trash talking all week via social media led to one of the more heavily anticipated games in the 2026 EAFL season and in the end, Tarpon Springs was able to remain undefeated.

The Pirates overcame a number of miscues throughout the evening as they defeated a feisty West Florida Apes squad, 28-0, on Saturday night at Childs Park. Tarpon Springs improved to 3-0 for the first time in program history.

Though the team was able to notch another accomplishment under its proverbial belt, it wasn't easy despite the final score maybe indicating otherwise.

Quarterback Zay McIntyre had his toughest night behind center for the team, throwing four interceptions against a tough Apes' defense that kept the game to a two-score contest for two and a half quarters.

Through the difficulties in trying to find the endzone, Tarpon Springs was still able to find plenty of success on the defensive side of the ball, with the Pirates able to harass West Florida quarterback Jayelin Luke all evening long.

Up just 14-0 at intermission, the team pressed throughout the third quarter for the elusive third touchdown and would get it.

Running back Christian Phillips pounded the rock for the Pirates' ground attack, rushing for a game-high 143 yards on 16 carries and scored a touchdown.

The Pirates will have a bye week before taking on the Lakeland Jokers back at Anclote High School.
