Pirates overpower Leopards in rare Sunday tilt

by Jackson Shewey

HUDSON- Playing in a rare Sunday matchup, the Tarpon Springs Pirates had no problem welcoming the Hernando County Leopards to AAA EAFL football.

The Pirates welcomed the return of running back Christian Phillips, who rushed for multiple rushing touchdowns en route to Tarpon Springs rolling to a 49-7 victory over Hernando County Leopards Sunday afternoon at Veterans Memorial Park.

Playing with its full complement of offensive starters, coordinator TyShon Peters' offense got rolling early and often against the Leopards' defense. It would be quarterback Isaiah McIntyre getting the show started with touchdown passes to Cyle Kurina, Jordan Wiggins and Trevor Steinke, a former USF standout.

By intermission, the Pirates were up several touchdowns and the second half ended up being played under a running clock per league rules.

Now, the Pirates will shift their focus over to the Florida Jaguars' in the team's highly anticipated home opener.
