PIRATES TAKING SHAPE HEADING INTO PRESEASON

by Andy Villamarzo

HOLIDAY- It has been a long journey for the Anclote Pirates throughout this 2016 preseason camp and the team is having some of its best practices heading into its November 27th preseason contest against the East Lake War Eagles.

The Pirates have made a smooth transition under head coach Scott Mirto, who has appointed former North Pinellas Decepticons defensive coordinator Mike Back, to the same position with Anclote. Back's familiarity with many of the team's players has been a big plus for the Pirates defensively.

On offense, Mirto has all but named former Hudson signal caller Nate Munson, as the team's starting quarterback. Munson in 2015, rushed and passed for over 1,000 yards with the Cobras. Munson enters the campaign as a newbie to the adult amateur scene, but should make the transition nicely and has looked solid in all of his practices with the Pirates.

The Pirates have a slew of running backs to throw at teams, with Deviro Inmon, Arseles Miller, Demarcus Tabor, Rodney Robinson and Joel Hernandez making up the stable of backs.

On defense, the Pirates have one of the more talented bunch in the area, with Robinson leading at linebacker and Elray Mixon making an impact as well. Free safety Alex Jennings has performed well in the secondary and will be a players to watch out for. Matthew Gaddie, Bryan LittleJohn, Ryan Cardwell, and James Emory are some interior defensive linemen who've played well during the preseason practices.
