Tarpon Springs cruises by Hernando in preseason action

BROOKSVILLE- The first game for Tarpon Springs Pirates was a national bowl game, treated a lot more like a regular season matchup.

In the team’s preseason game against the Hernando County Hawks, the Pirates were able to get a look at other players and some played in positions they hadn’t played before.

The Pirates cruised to a 38-14 victory over the Hawks at Hernando High School’s Tom Fisher Stadium. Isaiah McIntyre threw for three touchdowns in the victory for Tarpon Springs.

Things started a bit shaky for the Pirates, but once the team got going, they were tough to stop. All three of the team’s active signal callers saw time. McIntyre went 10-of-15 for 179 yards while Devin Gallo completed 8-of-17 passes for 96 yards, one touchdown and an interception.

Having a big day on the ground was veteran running back Maurice ‘Rampage’ Sturgis. The former Anclote running back rushed for 74 yards on nine carries and scored a touchdown.
