Turnovers hurt Dunedin in 15-6 road loss to Port Orange

PORT ORANGE- Turnovers were in an issue two weeks ago and remain the source of the problem for Dunedin's offense. 

The Pirates were not able to overcome three turnovers on the road, as Dunedin fell 15-6 to the Port Orange Stallions at the Coraci Athletic Fields this past Saturday. Dunedin fall to 0-2 on the season and will next take the field on Feb. 24th when they face the Golden Isles Grizzlies of Brunswick, Georgia. The Grizzlies fell to the River City Commandos 65-0 this past weekend. 

Dunedin was able to play Port Orange to a scoreless opening quarter of play, as both teams felt each other out in the first period. The turnover bug returned, however, in the second quarter as Dunedin quarterback Worthy Jackson fumbled and Port Orange's defense returned it for a touchdown. 

Down 8-0 heading into halftime, Dunedin's defense had played well against Port Orange's offense and was able to notch a turnover of its own in the third period. Pirates strong safety Kion Samuels nabbed an interception with the Stallions driving inside Pirates' territory. Bad field position and a lack of a running game hindered Dunedin all night, as coach Ernest Givins tried to formulate something offensively. 

Jackson in his first start for Dunedin completed 6-of-20 passes for 62 yards and a touchdown, which he completed a 3-yard score to wide receiver Javaughn Johnson late in the fourth quarter. Jackson also tossed two interceptions on the evening. 

A failed two-point conversion after Dunedin's lone score erased any chance for the Pirates to make a comeback attempt late in the game.
